Stress Management Tips to Help Freelancers

Being a freelancer can be stressful at times. Not only is work inconsistent, but there are some projects that consist of tight deadlines. The inconsistency of income can be enough to stress anyone out, especially if this is your only source of income. It takes a lot of marketing and getting your name out there to develop a steady flow of income. Staying as stress free as possible will help you become successful over the course of your career, and while it’s easier said than done, here are a few tips to help you stay calm and as stress free as possible.

Relax

Again, while it’s easier said than done, relaxing will help in several ways. Stressing out over a dry spell in work will do you no good in the long run. Take some time out of your day to relax. Have a cup of coffee or practice relaxation techniques such as meditation or Yoga. Taking a walk will also help and can help you get exercise also.

Deep Breathing Techniques

Taking deep breaths can help you as well. If you find that you’re overworked or feeling overwhelmed, consider taking some deep breaths for about a minute. This can sometimes help you feel more relaxed and can help you feel at ease again. This can also help ensure your brain gets enough oxygen.

Eat Healthy

Eating a well-balanced diet can help keep your energy levels up and can prevent headaches from a lack of sugar and valuable nutrients. You’ll also be able to focus more which can prevent stressing out over meeting deadlines. You’ll be able to focus on tasks at hand allowing you to meet deadlines while networking in new ways.

Keep a Positive Outlook

For the most part, anxiety comes from negative thinking. However, by thinking positive you can eliminate anxiety and stress. You’ll be able to focus and concentrate more while still dealing with the negative that comes from being a freelancer. Being in business is stressful on its own, but having negative thoughts haunt your mind every second is not going to do any good.

There are several things people worry about that are far beyond their control. You can’t control everything, so let go of it.

Practice Time Management

Find what works and stick with it. If you can use an online tool use it to your benefit. Managing your time better allows you to get more done. It also takes away from stress levels if you realize you slacked off and didn’t complete everything you needed to. Take breaks during the day as well to help keep a clear mind.

Get Adequate Rest

Sleep is important for everyone, and as freelancers it’s important to get adequate rest to keep you going through the day. Skimping on your sleep often leads to restless days and fogginess when it comes to trying to concentrate on a task.

By practicing these stress management skills you can better manage your time and you will begin to see a difference in your overall success as a freelancer.
